MEMC Southwest, Inc. is the newest facility to be added by MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. Construction began in September of 1995 and the site was officially dedicated in July of 1997. "Southwest" is only one of two MEMC wafer manufacturing facilities in the United States.

Background
The MEMC Southwest joint venture was formed in 1995 when MEMC purchased a 6-inch wafer facility from Texas Instruments. Shortly after the joint venture was announced, construction began on a new facility. The 200mm plant was built at a separate location from 150mm operations to facilitate future capacity expansions. The 150mm facility ceased operations in 2000.
