MEMC Southwest, Inc. produces silicon crystal ingots and wafers and is located in Sherman, TX. In September 2009, the Company announced plant consolidations whereby production at this site would be phased out by the end of Q3 2011. The Company intends to then sell the facility.

Background
The MEMC Southwest joint venture was formed in 1995 when MEMC purchased a 6-inch wafer facility from Texas Instruments. Shortly after the joint venture was announced, construction began on a new facility. The 200mm plant was built at a separate location from 150mm operations to facilitate future capacity expansions. The 150mm facility ceased operations in 2000.
